Surya Dev and the Daityas are different in Hindu mythology because they have different mothers, different roles, and different actions, even though their father is the same. Difference between Surya Dev and Daityas Surya Dev Daityas (often called demons) Father: Kashyapa Father: Kashyapa Mother: Aditi Mother: Diti One of the Adityas A group of beings descended from Diti Associated with light, life, and cosmic order Often portrayed as rivals of the Devas Worshipped as a deity Some are portrayed as opponents of the Devas Why are they different? According to Hindu mythology, Aditi and Diti had children with different destinies. The Devas generally represent cosmic order, while the Daityas often challenge the Devas for power and control of heaven. Important: Being born to Diti does not automatically mean every Daitya is evil. For example, Prahlada, a Daitya, is famous for his devotion to Lord Vishnu.
According to Hindu mythology, Surya Dev’s knowledge of future events depends on the particular story and scripture. 1. Aditi’s penance: In the story you are referring to, Aditi performs severe penance to please Surya Dev after the Daityas defeat the Devas and take control of heaven. 2. Did Surya Dev know beforehand? Some Hindu traditions describe gods as having divine knowledge, but this specific story does not necessarily establish that Surya Dev knew every detail before the conflict began. 3. Why didn't he stop the conflict? The story does not clearly say that Surya Dev deliberately allowed the conflict to happen. The Devas’ defeat and Aditi’s penance form part of the narrative leading to Surya’s divine intervention. 4. Could he have prevented it? That is a reasonable question, but the story does not provide a definitive answer. Different Hindu traditions explain divine power, destiny, and cosmic order in different ways.
Where did the gods live when the demons ruled heaven? 1. Heaven (Swर्ग): The Daityas had taken control of heaven and displaced the Devas. 2. The Devas: They lost their authority over heaven and sought help from their mother, Aditi. 3. Aditi: She performed severe penance to please Lord Surya and prayed for him to be born as her son. 4. Surya Dev: His birth as an Aditya is connected with the restoration of divine power in the story. Important clarification: Hindu scriptures contain different accounts of these events. Surya Dev’s birth as an Aditya and the later conflicts between the Devas and Daityas do not follow one universally agreed timeline. The Devas were not necessarily described as having no place to live; rather, they had lost control of their heavenly kingdom.

Their planetary influences are traditionally considered opposing in Vedic astrology.
